State party chief Rozi Mamat said Terengganu Umno must show the people that it has leaders capable of solving their problems. “We cannot speak passionately on stage while the people see no results. We must be problem-solvers, not just speakers,” he said.
He said party leaders must accept the reality of the party’s position in order to rebuild for the next general election. All leaders must work according to strategies set by the central party leadership.
“Don’t be stubborn. How are we to rise again if we are still shadowed by the previous results? We will face harder challenges than ever before,” he said at Umno’s 80th anniversary celebration in Kuala Terengganu today, according to Utusan Malaysia.
Rozi said the party’s opponents had capitalised on public concerns over the rising cost of living and Terengganu Umno needs a new way to reach the people beyond political rhetoric.
Umno must focus on core issues faced by the people, including insufficient state welfare aid, a 200% increase in land management payments, and parking issues with local authorities. He also said youth unemployment deserves serious attention, as people still remember how the previous Barisan Nasional state government brought investors into the state.
