PETALING JAYA:
Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim has invited Russian president Vladimir Putin to visit Malaysia next year to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Russian state media reported today.

The king, who is on an official visit at Putin’s invitation, became the first Malaysian head of state to be a guest-of-honour at Russia’s Victory Day parade today to mark the end of the Second World War.

At a meeting with the king, Putin said relations between Russia and Malaysia are developing well, as were trade and economic relations and these were all prerequisites to overcome a slight decrease in trade.

Other leaders at the parade included the presidents of Belarus, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Laos, and the prime minister of Slovakia.
