PETALING JAYA:
B Kumaresan has been elected the new chief of the PAS non-Muslim supporters wing, replacing N Balasubramaniam who did not defend the post.

At the wing’s first annual general meeting (AGM) yesterday, Kumaresan, a special officer to Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Nor, defeated K Deepakaran from Selangor.

Lim Guan Seng, special officer to Kelantan menteri besar Nassuruddin Daud, was elected unopposed as deputy chief.

The wing’s central information chief, G Balachandran, said the success of the wing’s first AGM showed that PAS was a party based on principles, stability, and multiracial harmony.

He said PAS had never been built on racial hatred or narrow sentiment, and that even during difficult periods such as the May 13 incident, the party had chosen peace and stability.

“The existence of the non-Muslim wing shows that PAS continues to gain support from people of various races who want a more mature, stable, and values-based political approach,” he said in a statement to FMT.

He added that in a political climate marked by racial polarisation and extreme narratives, the wing promoted the message that national unity cannot be built on fear or racial sentiment.

“Instead, it must be built through trust, dialogue, and fairness for all,” he said.

Other office bearers elected for the 2026–2027 term include SN Surianarayanan as vice-chief, R Hareetaran as secretary, and Teh Kar Yaw as assistant secretary.

S Jalaraman was appointed assistant secretary II, Alex Chan as assistant secretary III, K Jayaraman as treasurer, and L Manickam as election director, along with 14 others in senior positions.

The non-Muslim supporters wing was made an associate wing in September last year, giving it equal standing with the ulama, women’s, and youth wings. More than 10,000 non-Muslims are PAS members through this wing.
