He said the project is currently finalising technical requirements, implementation structure, and the involvement of strategic investors.
Nizar said its construction is subject to compliance with strict technical requirements by federal agencies, including the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia and transport ministry, particularly in the aspects of regulation, safety, and international flight operation standards.
“The state government would like to emphasise that this project is being prudently planned based on actual capabilities, with priority given to compliance with standards, investment viability, and transparent governance,” he told the state assembly.
Nizar was responding to Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man (PN-Cheka) who asked for an update on the construction of the airport, which was previously expected to begin operating this year.
Nizar said the proposed infrastructure development would be implemented through private financing without involving state or federal government funds.
It will be built on land owned by the Pahang government.
He said the high-impact project required careful planning as the airport would be built to operate for between 50 and 100 years, in addition to compliance with the standards of the agencies involved.
“There is no rush because this is an asset costing billions of ringgit. From the state government’s perspective, this project is going smoothly and God willing, there will be an interesting announcement by the developer soon,” he added.
