
PETALING JAYA: Malaysian women’s squash champion S Sivasangari has qualified for the quarter-finals of the World Championships in Giza, Egypt, after beating Belgium’s Tinne Gilis in straight games today.
Sivasangari, the tournament’s fifth seed, won 11-5, 13-11, 11-3 against Gilis, who was seeded ninth.
It was the Malaysian’s third victory in four encounters over her opponent, after having beaten her at the Cincinnati Gaynor Cup in 2022 and the Grasshopper Cup in 2025.
Sivasangari is in good form following her victory in the 2026 Grasshopper Cup in Zurich, Switzerland, two weeks ago when she beat Japan’s Satomi Watanabe 15-13, 5-11, 5-11, 11-7, 11-8 in a 62-minute final.
