Sivasangari advances at squash World Championships

KUALA LUMPUR:
Malaysia’s top women’s squash player S Sivasangari cruised into the third round of the World Championships in Giza, Egypt, after beating compatriot Aira Azman in round 2 in straight-set games today.

Sivasangari, the tournament’s fifth seed, took just 24 minutes to win 11-4, 11-9, 12-10 against 19th seed Aira, extending her unbeaten run over Aira to five matches.

In the third round, Sivasangari will face Belgium’s Tinne Gilis, who advanced after beating another Malaysian, Aifa Azman, 11-7, 11-6, 11-3 in 25 minutes.

Sivasangari will head into the last-16 tie with a slight advantage in the head-to-head record after having won two of her three previous meetings against Gilis at the Cincinnati Gaynor Cup in 2022 and the Grasshopper Cup in 2025.
