PETALING JAYA:
Bersatu vice-president Radzi Jidin has been appointed chairman of Melaka Perikatan Nasional, a position which has been vacant for nearly two months.

He replaces Masjid Tanah MP Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, who stepped down from the post in March.

Mas Ermieyati, a former deputy minister, was suspended from Bersatu for two terms following a leadership crisis that led to calls for Muhyiddin Yassin to step down as party president.

In a statement, Radzi said a Melaka PN meeting today also agreed to appoint state PAS commissioner Zulkifli Ismail as one of four deputy chairmen.

The others are Gan Peng Lam (Gerakan), T Arasu (MIPP) and Ali Mohamad (Bersatu).

Former Melaka Umno leader Ali was appointed election director while Tangga Batu MP Bakri Jamaluddin from PAS was named secretary.

Ali was the former Melaka Umno deputy chairman and contested the Sungai Udang state seat in the 2021 Melaka election, losing to Bersatu’s Dr Aleef Yusof by a narrow margin of 530 votes.

Radzi said the meeting also centred on strengthening Melaka PN’s operational readiness for the Melaka state election and the 16th general election (GE16).
