SHAH ALAM:
A suspected drunk driver who drove against traffic in Klang and left a motorcyclist in critical condition after crashing into him will be charged at the Klang magistrates’ court on Monday.

Klang Selatan police chief Lim Jit Huey said the investigation paper on the incident has been submitted to the deputy public prosecutor’s office.

Lim said the remand order for the suspect, in his 30s, was extended yesterday until May 19.

A motorcyclist in his 20s was critically injured after he was hit by a car along Persiaran Kota at about 12.30am on Wednesday.

Lim previously said the suspect’s vehicle was believed to have been driven recklessly from Port Klang towards Shah Alam while travelling against traffic for about 3.5km before crashing into the  motorcycle.

An initial screening found that the driver tested positive for alcohol.

The case was investigated under Section 44(1A) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing injury while driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, an offence punishable by a jail term of between seven and 10 years, and a fine of RM30,000 to RM50,000.

A one-minute, five-second video showing the car going against traffic went viral on social media.
