PETALING JAYA:
Men’s doubles pair Aaron Tai-Kang Khai Xing advanced to the second round of the Indonesia Open after world No 4 pair Chirag Shetty-Satwiksairaj Rankireddy retired midway through their opening game today.

The Malaysians, ranked world No 23, were leading 11-6 when Chirag signalled to the umpire that he was struggling with a right shoulder injury, prompting the umpire to declare Aaron-Khai Xing the winners.

The top Indian pair have found Aaron-Khai Xing difficult opponents, having lost to them in the opening round of the All England in March. However, the Indians gained revenge by defeating the Malaysians at the Malaysia Masters last week.

Aaron-Khai Xing will face another Indian pair, Hariharan Amsakarunan-Arjun Madathil Ramakrishnan, in the last-16 tomorrow.

They join compatriots Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani in the second round.

Malaysia are guaranteed one more men’s doubles pair in the last-16, as Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik will take on compatriots Wan Arif Wan Junaidi-Yap Roy King in their opening-round match later today.
