Bersama president Syukri Razab said these rumours, sparked by two Bersatu leaders tonight, were not true.
“Bersama is focused on going solo and contesting seats with a higher potential of victory,” he told FMT briefly.
Muda information chief Rasid Abu Bakar said the party is negotiating with all opposition parties about a possible pact for the Johor polls.
He said the goal is simply to reduce seat clashes among opposition parties. “So far, the only pact we have is with Parti Sosialis Malaysia,” he said.
Rumours of a tie-up among Bersama, Bersatu, Muda and Pejuang were sparked by cryptic Facebook posts published by two Bersatu leaders.
Bersatu Supreme Council member Rafiq Abdullah simply posted “Pejuang-Muda-Bersama-Bersatu”, while interim Padang Rengas Bersatu chief Saiful Adli Arshad posted the names of several leaders from all four parties, prompting speculation on its meaning.
“TS Muhyiddin (Yassin), Syed Saddiq (Syed Abdul Rahman), Radzi Jidin, Azmin Ali, Rafizi Ramli, Mukhriz,” said Saiful, the former political secretary to Bersatu president Muhyiddin.
Radzi is a Bersatu vice-president while Azmin is its secretary-general.
Mukhriz is Pejuang president while Syed Saddiq was Muda’s founding president, though he has been succeeded by former Puteri Wangsa assemblyman Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz.
It is unclear if the Bersatu duo were referring to a possible pact between the parties for the Johor polls or even beyond that.
FMT has reached out to Azmin for comment.
This comes after PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man called on PAS and Umno to work together in the state election, describing it as the right time to revive their now-defunct Muafakat Nasional alliance.
The relationship between PAS and Bersatu is on the rocks with PAS’s central committee set to meet next week to determine the future of their alliance.
Two weeks ago, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said the party was reassessing its ties with Bersatu and would possibly contest the next general election without the Muhyiddin-led party.
