<p>As with so many of us, a rough childhood can sometimes be the motivation for a fabulously creative adult life.</p>
<p>“I was a very insecure kid. I wasn’t even able to look people in the eye. I’ve always known that I was different,” says self-taught artist Hammada Bamadhaj.</p>
<p>Suffering from low self-esteem, Hammada found his confidence in bringing his drawings to life through the medium of makeup. </p>
<p>The 25-year-old artist dived into this niche market four years ago and caught the public’s attention with his jaw-dropping makeup skills. </p>
<p>Hammada won ‘Artist of the Year’ in the NYX Cosmetics Malaysia&#8217;s FACE Awards in 2019, and started growing his client base. </p>
<p>Apart from working with makeup brands, he has worked with local production teams to create special effects for sci-fi and horror films. </p>
<p>The artist has pushed the boundaries of how makeup can be used in storytelling and how it can liberate the characters, rather than define them. </p>
<p>Hammada describes his makeup style as a fusion of avant-garde, horror and beauty.</p>
