In November 2016, Rachel Ng adopted her very first cat – a Nebelung, an uncommon breed with long bodies, wide-set green eyes, long and dense fur, and a mild temperament.
The little one came into her life as a stray kitten that was found on her university campus.
“He had an injured limb. Fortunately, he was spotted by kind souls who rescued and fostered him,” she recalls.
“I was immediately interested when his foster parents asked around for potential adopters.”

The kitten had a beautiful grey coat with white patches. Naturally, Rachel named him Grey.
True to his stock, Grey is the quietest of three cats in Rachel’s family and likes to take long naps, occasionally coming out of nowhere for cuddles.
She says he is a timid kitty who prefers to be alone most of the time and rarely meows unless he is hungry.

“Grey is very sensitive to loud or sharp noises. He always asks us to stop whenever we’re washing the plates because he hates the sound of plates clinking.
“We always try to wash or dry the plates as quietly as possible,” she laughs.
When she first found out about his breed, Rachel recalls she had to do some research.
“Nebelungs are relatively rare, and lucky owners usually find them in shelters or as strays,” she explains.

In this case, though, Rachel considers herself the lucky one. Grey never fails to bring a smile to her face, especially since he is the only one who can do simple tricks.
“He knows how to sit, shake paws, high-five, and jump across my arm when I ask him to,” she says, although there’s a cat caveat: “He needs treats for motivation.
“He is a very special cat,” she says.
