Petaling Jaya police chief Fakhruddin Abdul Hamid said they received a 999 call at about 3.50pm yesterday about the toddler, who had lost consciousness in her mother’s car.
He said the initial investigation found that the mother had sent two of her children to school at 7am before making her way to a child care centre to drop off the toddler.
“On reaching the centre, the mother stopped briefly to attend to some online business, and forgot to drop the girl off.
“She returned home and only realised that the child was unconscious in the car at 3.35pm,” he said in a statement.
Fakhruddin said the father called 999 and provided first aid to the girl before the ambulance and the police arrived.
The girl was taken to Sungai Buloh Hospital but was declared dead on arrival, he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001 for negligence.
Two similar incidents were reported last month, with one involving a 16-month-old girl in Kuala Nerus, Terengganu, and the other an eight-month-old girl in Cheras, Selangor.
