PETALING JAYA:
After over half a century in the entertainment industry, veteran actress Lai Meng has announced her retirement at the age of 90.

Lai has starred in many television series, films, radio shows, stage productions and commercials, the most iconic of them being her role in the sitcom Empat Sekawan.

At the age of 81, she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at Taipei’s 45th Golden Horse Awards for her role in Money No Enough 2.

In recognition of her achievements in the entertainment industry, Lai received a Datukship from the Sultan of Pahang in 2013.

According to a report in the lifestyle section of The Star, Lai, whose real name is Lai Kwai Yoon, first considered retirement after a fall last year that caused her to become wheelchair-bound.

She took a break and later decided to retire as she wanted to spend more time with her family.

A gala dinner will be held at HGH Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur on Jan 27, 2018, to mark her retirement.

In a press conference last week, Lai said: “My wish is to reconnect with all those who have worked with me and helped me over the years. I really hope to see you all there (at the gala dinner).

“Please continue to give me your support, and wish me a bright future.”
