KUALA LUMPUR:
Malaysian foodies are in for a delightful cultural treat, as Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur (JFKL) brings the much-anticipated travelling exhibition “I Love Sushi” to the city.

Running from tomorrow until Dec 31, this vibrant showcase of Japan’s most iconic dish goes beyond taste to a celebration of history, art and tradition.

Held in collaboration with the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia, Urban Museum Kuala Lumpur (Ur-mu), and Sushi Hibiki, this initiative reimagines sushi as a cultural masterpiece – one that tells the story of Japan’s creativity, craftsmanship, and deep respect for nature’s bounty.

Visitors can immerse themselves in captivating visuals, interactive displays, and digital experiences that trace the evolution of sushi from a centuries-old preservation method to the refined nigiri-zushi of the Edo era, on to the modern-day global sensation it has become today.

Designed to engage both the eyes and the palate, “I Love Sushi” promises a multisensory experience complete with a virtual-reality “sushi shop”, educational screenings, and detailed exhibits showcasing the precision and artistry behind every roll and slice.

In conjunction with the opening, JFKL will host an exclusive sushi-making demonstration and tasting session by Sushi Hibiki, featuring its owner and Japanese Cuisine Goodwill Ambassador, chef Makoto Saito Sam.

Saito, who is known for his culinary finesse and passion for promoting authentic Japanese cuisine in Malaysia, will also lead a talk session offering a behind-the-scenes look into Japan’s dynamic sushi culture.

Part of a decade-long world tour that began in 2022, “I Love Sushi” serves as a bridge of cultural exchange, reminding audiences that food – much like art – has the power to connect people across borders.

After its debut here, the exhibition will travel to Terengganu and Kota Kinabalu in Sabah, so that sushi lovers and cultural enthusiasts across Malaysia to get a taste of Japan’s timeless culinary story.
