With Malaysia experiencing some of the hottest days of the year, it’s only normal to crave for something that would “cool” the body down.

The perfect thing to quench the thirst would be Longan Tong Sui, a simple and healthy Chinese dessert that you can make at home.

Cooling qualities aside, the combination of longan, snow fungus and red dates are claimed to have nutritional and nourishing benefits that do wonders for one’s wellbeing and health.

This dessert is typically consumed during breakfast on the first day of Chinese New Year as it symbolises “sweet blessings”, and it is also common to have it served during weddings (for the bride, groom and guests).

That being said, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be able to enjoy this on a random, hot day at home regardless of whether it is Chinese New Year or someone’s wedding or not.

Apart from the health benefits, it is said that the snow fungus in Tong Sui will beautify the skin. (Rasa Malaysia pic)
