An affordable feast at River View Seafood in Kuala Selangor

Looking for a slap-up seafood meal? Look no further: this restaurant, right next to Jetty Seafood, is - mostly - a winner.

If you’re looking for a slap-up seafood meal that’s delicious and affordable, River View Seafood Restaurant in Kuala Selangor is well worth a visit. It’s located right next door to Jetty Seafood in the heart of the seafood district by Pasir Penambang.

Like Jetty Seafood, River View is a pork-free restaurant – in fact, you can’t even find any meat items that don’t come from the ocean, apart from chicken. Still, it has an extensive menu that includes crab, prawn, fish, squid, clams, mantis prawn, and an assortment of vegetables.

The lala mee hoon comes in a generous portion for RM20 and is fragrant and delicious, packed with tiny pieces of clam meat; while the fried squid (RM22) is delightful – a super-light batter coating fresh seafood that’s cooked just right, maintaining its soft texture. Excellent.

Then there’s the coconut tom yam prawn (RM28), providing a spicy kick to elevate the meal. Funnily enough, the portion was bigger than the coconut could contain, so half of it was served in a bowl – perhaps they could have provided two coconuts!

For veggies, try the Thai long beans (RM16), which comes with anchovies, peanuts, and a squeeze of lemon, resulting in a savoury flavour that provides a pleasant contrast to all the seafood.

The only disappointment was the chilli bamboo clams (RM16): while the seasoning was decent, the clams were a bit too tough and chewy. According to the server, this was due to the size of the clams being too big – which is neither here nor there, but oh well.

Lastly, a proper seafood dinner is not complete without crabs! The soft-shell crab with salted egg – priced at RM13 each, with a minimum order of three – is another winner: rich, delicious, and plentiful!

All in all, if you find yourself in Kuala Selangor or Sekinchan, do yourself a favour and drop by River View. With a total bill of RM150.50, the price was certainly on the money, on top of the great taste. Minus the clams.
