PETALING JAYA:
What has Prime Minister Najib Razak, as a Pahang aristocrat, done to solve the problem brought on by uncontrolled bauxite mining in the state?

This was what Pahang opposition leader Tengku Zulpuri Shah Raja Puji asked today.

He said that Najib, as one of the Orang Besar Berempat Pahang, should be more involved with issues affecting his home state.

“When it comes to critical issues in the state such as bauxite mining and logging, I do not see him playing a serious role,” he said, noting that the last time he did was in 2014, after a major landslide in Cameron Highlands.

“As one of the Orang Besar Berempat, Najib should advise the Sultan to discuss the issue with the Menteri Besar ,” said Tengku Zulpuri, who is a descendant of one of the Orang Besar Berlapan Pahang.

Najib inherited the title of Orang Kaya Indera Shahbandar, one of the Orang Besar Berempat, from his father.

The Orang Besar Berempat’s role is to advise the Sultan of Pahang.

Yesterday, Putrajaya announced a three-month moratorium on bauxite mining activities effective January 15.
