This announcement was made amidst reports that such a race was already scheduled to take place.
Mayor Mohd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz said DBKL had only received a proposal so far for the event, when asked to comment on the possibility of another KL City Grand Prix event like last year’s.
“We have received a proposal, however we want to see the funds first.
“The organisers must show us they have the funds before we can consider their proposal,” he told FMT today at the sidelines of the launching of DBKL’s planning guidebooks for the public.
However, reports in some racing websites have stated the KL City 400 Supercar Extravaganza was scheduled for August 12-14.
A website for the event has even been set up.
Controversy still hangs over the previous race in which DBKL allegedly forked out some RM30 million despite assurances by the organising company that sponsors would foot the bill.
This was made apparent in court papers filed by two firms that set up the joint-venture company and are now at war with each other.
The KL City Grand Prix was also not well received by many business owners and members of the public who complained about traffic congestion due to road closures.
