PETALING JAYA:
The police probe into the death of Syed Alman Zaid Syed Alwi, the son-in-law of Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, is expected to be wrapped-up this week.

Malay daily Berita Harian today quoted Kuala Lumpur CID chief Rusdi Mohd Isa as saying that the case was being investigated under Section 304A of the Penal Code for causing death owing to negligence.

According to the report, several witnesses from the private dental clinic in Bangsar, where Syed Alman underwent surgery, have had their statements recorded thus far.

Rusdi stressed that the police were probing the matter under the Penal Code, whereas the Health Ministry was investigating the incident under the Medical and Dental Act.

Syed Alman, who was married to Zahid’s eldest daughter Nurulhidayah, lost consciousness while undergoing dental surgery at the clinic, and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the University Malaya Medical Centre last Wednesday.

The cause of his death is yet to be ascertained.
