Petronas to expand ties with Azerbaijan state oil firm

Petronas President Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin says the company is proud to participate in Azerbaijan’s gas development projects.

BAKU (Azerbaijan): Petronas is interested in expanding ties with the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), said Petronas President Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin.

A report in SOCAR’s website said he expressed this wish during a meeting with SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev.

Trend.az reported that during the meeting, Abdullayev talked about long-term cooperation between SOCAR and Petronas. He said the companies would continue their successful joint activities.

Wan Zulkiflee was reported as saying Petronas was proud of participating in the large-scale projects in Azerbaijan, such as the Shah Deniz 2 project.

Abdullayev said work on Stage 2 of the development of the Shah Deniz gas and condensate field was on schedule.

Petronas has a 15.5 per cent share each in the project to develop the Shah Deniz field and in the South Caucasus Pipeline Company. It also has a 12.4 per cent share in Azerbaijan Gas Supply Company, according to the report.
