DAP: We’ve always engaged in mature politics

Perak DAP says it is Umno which practises "old style confrontational politics".

PETALING JAYA:
It is a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

Perak DAP said this when commenting on Umno’s Abdul Rahman Dahlan accusing the Opposition party of practising “old politics of instigation, provocation, hatred and demonisation”.

Perak DAP Publicity Bureau Chief Chong Zhemin was disappointed that the BN strategic director had failed to reprimand the actions of Umno Youth members and supporters in red shirts, who clashed with police and shouted racist slogans at DAP’s headquarters in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

They had gathered to protest a controversial Facebook post linked to DAP’s Nga Kor Ming.

In a statement, Perak DAP Publicity Bureau Chief Chong Zhemin declared that DAP had always engaged in mature politics and the party had always given constructive criticism.

“In fact, if Abdul Rahman Dahlan would like an example of ‘old style confrontational politics’, he needs to look no further than the party he is in”.

Chong was responding to a series of tweets by Rahman earlier this morning where the minister in the Prime Minister’s Department chastised DAP’s confrontational politics with little regard for the consequences.

Rahman had written this in response to Nga’s Hari Raya greetings on Facebook, namely an American-themed message, along with the words “In God We Trust”, and one which featured a cartoon that equated duit Raya to “dedak” (bribes).

Nga, who is the Taiping MP, has since denied uploading the cartoon and blamed it on cybertroopers.

In this particular case, Chong , who is also Nga’s political secretary, said the Kota Belud lawmaker must keep in mind that Nga is a victim and had since lodged a police report.

“I urge all parties to remain calm and let the police investigate the case professionally before making any unfounded accusations.”
