PETALING JAYA:
A former Umno divisional leader, Khairuddin Abu Hassan, has accused Umno leaders of “trying to straighten a wet thread” in the controversial issues around 1Malaysia Development Bhd.

He challenged Umno’s leaders to debate the 1MDB controversy on air via Radio-TV Malaysia after Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor had called for opposition politicians to not act in haste.

Khairuddin accused Tengku Adnan and Umno leaders of not holding on to their faith in Islam by appearing to condone bribery and corruption.

“Enough with Umno’s leaders attempting to straighten a wet thread.

Najib Razak (Umno president and prime minister) must take responsibility in the 1MDB scandal,” Khairuddin said in a statement today.

“Umno’s leaders today have no faith. They should all recite their shahadah all over again and return to being true believers that hold on to Islam’s pure beliefs, based on the Quran and the Sunnah.

“It is haram to abet or be part of bribery. Leaders who break this should be opposed and rejected. Islam’s teachings has no double standard. Anyone who commits a crime must be punished.”

Khairuddin challenged Tengku Adnan to order the Attorney-General and Inspector-General of Police to contact the office of the US Attorney-General to find out the person referred to as “Malaysian Official No 1” in a law suit filed to recover US$1 billion in assets allegedly bought with money stolen from 1MDB.

“Umno’s leaders must read the full report from the American Attorney-General’s office. The only thing I’m afraid of is that Umno’s weak-minded flatterers don’t understand English.”

Khairuddin dismissed Umno Supreme Council member Ab Aziz Kaprawi’s statement that there was no need for an independent tribunal to investigate the 1MDB allegations because the Public Accounts Committee had done so.

“Who wants to believe the extremely untransparent Parliament PAC? PAC chairman Hassan Ariffin has admitted to making changes to the PAC report without the PAC members’ knowledge,” Khairuddin hit back.

“Would they tell us to hold on to and believe the PAC report? Are Umno’s leaders stupid?
