Q&M Dental Group, a public-listed company in the island republic, named Dr Matthew Hong An Liang and his wife Zoe Chong Lee Lee as the respondents in the suit, according to a filing the company made with the Singapore stock exchange.
Chong, who was the Mrs Malaysia pageant winner in 2015, had served as the general manager of the Malaysian operations, while her husband was the director as well as the resident dentist in the two clinics, Q&M Molek and Q&M Austin.
Q&M declared that Hong was suspended last June while Chong had been relieved as general manager in July.
According to the daily, the couple breached their contract by setting up their own dental clinic in a location that is directly behind one of the two clinics, and had used Q&M’s resources for their own clinic.
In the filing on Tuesday, Q&M also alleged that it had found evidence which suggested that the couple had deposited or transferred company funds into their personal accounts.
Q&M had also terminated the contracts of the couple’s family members working in the two clinics, Straits Times reported.
The company also alleged that Hong had been charged in the Johor Bahru magistrate’s court with using criminal force against one of the dentists working in the clinic.
According to the report, Q&M Dental lodged a complaint with the Malaysia Dental Council last year claiming Hong had acted unprofessionally as a dentist and for previously carrying out unapproved procedures in its clinics.
