KUALA LUMPUR: The Wildlife and National Park Department (Perhilitan) has detained seven people who were involved in selling wildlife via the social media.

Natural Resources and Environment Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said they were nabbed during the Op Taring V special operation on March 27.

“I believe we have crippled a major illegal syndicate selling wildlife through the social media,” he told reporters here today.

He said a Pakistan national, 46, was detained for having two boxes of black langur (lotong) babies on his motorcycle in Sentul.

The second arrest involved a 36-year-old local woman at her house in Ampang for having three civets, seven black langur and six leopard cats, he said.

Five men, aged 21 to 25 years, were also detained in Senawang, Negeri Sembilan, with 28 Indian Star tortoises and two hill mynahs in two cars, he added.
