Selangor Youth, Sports, Cultural and Entreprenuership development exco Amirudin Shari made the call after being asked to comment on Wong Chen’s claims regarding the state government’s audit on his office.
In May, Wong Chen had criticised the Selangor government over what he saw as a lack of transparent, fair and proper handling of an audit on the spending of the annual RM250,000 budget allocation to his office.
The PKR man decided to make a public disclosure of the audit findings and the lack of answers from the Selangor state treasury despite repeated queries from him and his staff.
Amirudin, who is also a PKR Youth leader, said the state government’s audits are done transparently, frequently, and are based on standard operation procedures.
“Don’t twist things. Some ‘analysts’ are trying to turn the audit into something political but we are quite transparent when it comes to conducting audits.
“The audits are merely done in order to get some kind of idea of the spending by our state assemblymen and MPs. If Wong Chen feels like he’s been treated unfairly then let him deal with the treasury,” Amirudin told FMT, adding that the matter should be left between Wong Chen and the state treasury.
Amirudin said the audits proved the state government was unbiased when it came to investigating misuse of funds.
“The audits have been going on since 2008 and show that our government guarantees that each department and individual in power is being inspected. Integrity is our highest priority.”
Previously, Wong Chen had said the state treasury said it had audited his office accounts in May 2016 but only completed the audit 11 months later, in February.
Last month, Wong Chen had also decided to suspend welfare related programmes under his constituency until further notice including his Welfare Month programme.
He revealed this in a Facebook post explaining that a decision was made after a fax was sent to his office from the Selangor government.
When contacted, he declined to reveal the contents of the fax sent by the Selangor government which led to the suspension of the welfare programme his office had planned.
