Permatang Pauh PKR Youth chief Mohd Sharmizan Mohamad Nor said PKR is the best logo to use in the PH coalition as the society at large can easily relate it to the fight against the Barisan Nasional regime.
“I fully support the call to use one single logo in GE14.
“It is the right thing to do as multiple logos of different parties is one of the reasons the opposition lost in seats which saw three- or four-cornered fights in the last polls.
“The PKR logo is a brand that has fought for the people and has been fighting Umno and BN since 1999.
“So it is natural that PKR’s ‘crescent moon’ be used to fight BN’s ‘scales’ (‘dacing’),” he told reporters today.
PH chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad said yesterday that all PH candidates would contest under the logo of one of its four member parties if the Registrar of Societies (RoS) fails to approve the coalition’s application for registration.
However, Mahathir, who is also PPBM chairman, said the pact had yet to decide which logo would be used in GE14.
“RoS has yet to answer any of our letters or our court case. We hope by Thursday the court will be able to give us some insight into the refusal by RoS to give us an answer.
“In the meantime, we have decided to use one logo in GE14. This is our decision, that all parties will use that same logo.
“Whether RoS approves our logo or not, we will use only one logo as our identity,” he said yesterday.
The four-party coalition is made up of PKR, DAP, PPBM and Amanah.
RoS had cited PPBM’s failure to hold its first annual general meeting, as well as DAP’s problems over its central executive committee as reasons for the delay.
PPBM has since held its annual general assembly, while RoS has also recognised DAP’s top leadership line-up following a re-election held last November.
PH submitted its application to be registered with the RoS last July and wrote several letters concerning the status of its application, but has yet to hear from the department.
Last Thursday, the coalition filed an application for a judicial review over the RoS’ refusal to register the opposition coalition. The Kuala Lumpur High Court will hear the application tomorrow.
