
Deputy Chief Minister Raymond Tan said the government would assist these entrepreneurs in product marketability planning, packaging, logistics and even marketing in the digital space.
“The government will help with the costs involving the end-to-end solution, from the training part up to marketing,” he told reporters during the promotion of a roadshow to be held on April 23 called “Championing Sabah’s Digital Economy” in Sabah’s east coast Sandakan district here.
Tan said small and medium entrepreneurs contributed about RM10 billion in salary payment to workers in Sabah in 2015 alone. As such, he said, it was high time these business owners became involved in the digital economy, which could offer them a worldwide market.
Organised by the Sabah industrial development ministry in collaboration with the Industrial Development and Research Department and Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park Sdn Bhd, the roadshow will be held at the Harbour Mall in Sandakan.
The main objective of the event is to disseminate information on government initiatives in digital economic development and to encourage entrepreneurs in Sabah to engage in the marketing of products and services through e-commerce.
Tan said the digital economy now covered all aspects of community life, including the way people interacted, the economic landscape and the skills needed to get a good job.
The event aimed to create awareness so that small and medium enterprises in Sabah would remain competitive and successful in the increasingly challenging business environment, he added.
