SEREMBAN:
Police are to take a statement from PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli as they carry out an investigation under the Anti-Fake News Act into remarks he made against the Election Commission.

“We will call up Rafizi and the others involved as soon as possible,” said Negeri Sembilan police chief Noor Azam Jamaludin today.

Rafizi’s remarks, which were allegedly defamatory, were made on social media and directed against the Election Commission (EC) and the police after PKR’s candidate for the Rantau state election was refused entry to the nomination centre last Saturday.

On Monday, Umno Youth leader Khairy Jamaluddin said he had filed a defamation writ against Rafizi for remarks made about him and Rantau candidate Mohamad Hasan, who is Negeri Sembilan menteri besar.

Noor Azam said the police would work with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to trace the owner of the Facebook account that had carried the allegation against EC staff and the police.

Mohamad Hasan has been declared elected unopposed after his sole challenger, Dr S. Streram of PKR, was unable to file his nomination papers. He could not enter the nomination centre as he did not have an EC-supplied pass.
