KUALA LUMPUR:
The government may announce the quantum of bonus to be given to civil servants after the Cabinet meeting tomorrow, said the finance minister.

“It is better for us to wait till tomorrow. The prime minister may announce it tomorrow,” said Lim Guan Eng after leading a procession, along with Buddhist monks, to celebrate Wesak Day in Brickfields today.

Earlier, he visited the Maha Vihara temple to celebrate the festival with devotees and said the government was committed to ensure religious tolerance, acceptance of one another and peace.

On Monday, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had said the government will pay a bonus to the 1.6 million civil servants as Raya approaches.

In the 2018 Budget, the Barisan Nasional government had announced a special aid of RM1,500 for the 1.6 million civil servants.

A sum of RM1,000 had been paid in January with the balance scheduled to be paid before Hari Raya.
