PUTRAJAYA:
The Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) will look into the arrest of lawyer activist Siti Kasim to determine whether the police followed the standard operating procedure (SOP).

EAIC chairman A. Aziz A. Rahim said the agency viewed with grave concern allegations of police misuse of power when they arrested Siti Kasim.

“EAIC will be looking into the matter… whether there is any truth in the allegation of police impropriety in carrying out their duty and function.

“This is in line with the provision in Section 28 of the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission 2009 [Act 700] whereby the Commission may commence its own investigation since the matter is of significant interest to the public,” he said.

Siti Kasim was detained at the Kajang district police headquarters at 12.40am early Sunday following a police report lodged by a woman claiming the lawyer had kidnapped her 24-year-old daughter on Thursday.

Police yesterday released Siti Kasim after the Kajang Magistrate’s Court rejected the police application for her remand.
