
In a Facebook posting, he was seen with his wife, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is deputy prime minister.
The procedure – a total reverse shoulder replacement – was done to treat a severe rotator cuff injury.
“Earlier in the week, he underwent a microsurgery for an acute chronic back pain due to a prolapsed disc.
“His heart function is normal, without significant coronary artery disease, for us to smoothly proceed with both procedures.
“DSAI is in good spirits and recuperating well following both surgeries that were uneventful.
“He will undergo physiotherapy and is expected to make a full recovery,” the posting said.
He and his family thanked all medical and nursing staff in Malaysia and abroad for the excellent clinical treatment and care he had received.
Anwar was taken to Universiti Malaya Medical Centre last month after complaining of back pain upon his return from a trip to Turkey.
The PKR leader had been suffering from pain in his shoulder. It worsened after a car accident last year while being taken to Sungai Buloh Prison.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited Anwar at the hospital in Istanbul.
