Senior cop remanded to assist in RM100,000 corruption case

He is believed to have accepted money for not taking action against police corporal who had received payments for reducing traffic summonses.

PUTRAJAYA:
A senior police officer who is also a “Datuk”, has been remanded for five days to assist in investigations involving corruption cases involving RM100,000.

Magistrate Shah Wira Abdul Halim issued the remand order at the magistrate’s court here today after allowing the application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate the matter under Section 17 (a) of the MACC Act 2009.

The 56-year-old senior officer, with the rank of ACP, was arrested at the MACC headquarters here at 7.10pm on Thursday after he had arrived to give his statement.

According to sources, the suspect, who served as a department director at Bukit Aman police headquarters, is suspected of requesting and receiving the bribes between August and October last year.

The suspect is believed to have received the money as an inducement for not taking action against a police corporal who had received payments for managing and reducing summonses at Bukit Aman’s Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT).
