KUALA LUMPUR:
Former prime minister Najib Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor joined the anti-International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) thanksgiving rally.

Dressed in a white “baju Melayu”, he and Rosmah joined thousands of marchers in a procession at 2.10pm from Masjid Jamek to Dataran Merdeka.

Among the Umno leaders present were Shabery Cheek, Ahmad Said and Shahrir Samad.

The rally, organised by Gerakan Pembela Ummah (Ummah) and supported by Umno and PAS, was initially aimed at opposing the ratification of the United Nations-sponsored treaty.

It was rebranded as a thanksgiving event after the government announced it did not intend to ratify the ICERD.
