PUTRAJAYA:
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested former 1MDB executive director Arul Kanda Kandasamy over the alleged tampering with the sovereign fund’s audit report.

Arul’s lawyer N Sivanathan said Arul was arrested at 10.30am after going to the MACC headquarters to record his statement.

He said Arul and former prime minister Najib Razak would be taken to the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court tomorrow to be charged over the altered report.

“As I understand, it will be a single charge against them over the Auditor-General’s Report,” he said.

“Unlike Najib, Arul will not be released today. He will be held in custody to have his statement recorded.”

Najib is expected to be charged with abuse of power for ordering that the 1MDB report be amended while Arul will be charged with abetting the offence.

MACC arrested the former prime minister yesterday as part of its investigation but freed him after he posted bail.

Najib currently faces 38 charges related to 1MDB, its former unit SRC International and accusations of misappropriating public funds to pay the RM6.6 billion settlement agreement between 1MDB and the International Petroleum Investment Company.
