“As a government MP, he should be more cautious in making any statements, especially involving members of the government. I am disappointed over this,” he said in a statement.
Muhyiddin said during the June 27, 2018 post-Cabinet meeting, he had informed that the Cabinet had decided to reopen Teoh’s case and had instructed the inspector-general of police to take immediate action.
The Bukit Gelugor MP had claimed that Muhyiddin and his ministry had remained silent despite being informed in October that the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) had instructed police to reopen the case as far back as July.
In a statement, Ramkarpal further dismissed Muhyiddin’s previous assertion in October that police were still awaiting the AGC’s orders on reopening the investigation.
Teoh, the former political aide to DAP Seri Kembangan assemblyman Ean Yong Hian Wah, was found dead in 2009 after falling nine floors from the former Selangor MACC headquarters in Shah Alam where he had been held overnight for questioning.
Muhyiddin, who is the PPBM president, said following his instructions and a letter from the AGC, dated July 17, 2018, police had set up a special task force, led by a deputy commissioner, K Manoharan, to reinvestigate the case.
“This task force had prepared an investigation paper and handed it to the AGC for further instructions on Oct 18 last year,” Muhyiddin said.
He further clarified that his statement that police were waiting for instructions from the AG, as reported by the media on Oct 25, 2018, was referring to further instructions from the AG on investigation papers submitted by the special task force.
“The AG has given specific instructions to the task force on Dec 17 and the investigation is still ongoing,” he added.
