“Wait and see who the candidate is first,” PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man told FMT today.
Previously, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan had said the party would give way to BN as the coalition had obtained the most votes after Pakatan Harapan in the 14th general election last year.
He added at the time that PAS would campaign for the opposition in the Semenyih by-election.
Last year, the Islamist party also gave way to BN in the Sungai Kandis by-election.
Acting Umno president Mohamad Hasan had also been quoted as saying the pact between BN and PAS in the recently concluded Cameron Highlands by-election was a big factor why BN’s candidate won.
In the general election last year, PPBM’s Bakhtiar Mohd Nor obtained 23,428 votes to defeat BN’s Johan Abd Aziz, who received 14,464 votes, in the Semenyih state seat.
A by-election was called following his death from a heart attack.
PSM and Gerakan have since indicated that they would contest in the by-election, with DAP and Amanah opting out of the race.
PPBM is said to have a list of its potential candidates ready.
