JOHOR BAHRU: Police have arrested a man suspected of driving his car in Pasir Gudang here with two boys riding outside on the boot, rear windscreen and on the car. The car, a Toyota Vios, was also seized.
Seri Alam district police chief Supt Ismail Dollah said the 49-year-old suspect was arrested at his home in Taman Nusa Damai, near Pasir Gudang at about 7.45pm yesterday after complaints were received from some who saw online postings and a video about the incident.
The man has been remanded for two days for investigations under Section 336 of the Penal Code for endangerment of life or personal safety. Statements were also taken from three boys aged 10 to 12 believed to be involved in the incident, with one of them being a child of the suspect.
The incident was captured on video and photographs which were posted on the Facebook page of the Taman Scientex community, and police had received a complaint yesterday morning from an individual in connection with the Facebook posting.
The report had also stated that there was no information as yet on the date and time of the incident, which was believed to have taken place in the day time in the Taman Scientex area in Pasir Gudang. The moving car was also found to have beaten a red traffic light.
State executive councillor for Tourism, Women, Family and Community Development, Liow Cai Tung, who is Johor Jaya assemblywoman, congratulated the police on their swift action, and said the incident should be viewed seriously as it had endangered the children and other road users.
She said that there should be no tolerance of such offences and called for stern action to be taken by the police and other enforcement agencies, adding that witnesses of such incidents should alert the police immediately and not just record them.
