Last May, the two countries had agreed to suspend the construction of the RTS Link until Sep 30 at Malaysia’s request to restudy the cost aspects, CNA news site reported.
As part of the agreement, Malaysia had agreed to reimburse Singapore for the abortive costs incurred due to the suspension. This amounted to around S$600,000 (RM1.8 million).
The 4km RTS Link connects Bukit Chagar in Johor Bahru to Woodlands in Singapore.
It is expected to ferry up to 10,000 passengers per hour each way. The joint venture was supposed to be completed by 2024.
A bilateral agreement was signed in January 2018 involving Singapore’s SMRT and Malaysia’s Prasarana Malaysia.
It was reported earlier that if Malaysia decides to terminate the RTS Link project, the cost incurred by Putrajaya would be around S$66 million.
The RM4 billion project was mooted to ease traffic congestion.
