MMA president Dr Subramaniam Muniandy said they should be placed in these centres as there were some instances at home where physical distancing and isolation might be impossible to practice.
He added that placing all returning travellers from Sabah in quarantine centres would be a safer option, citing previous cases of returnees caught flouting the home quarantine order.
He, however, lauded the health ministry’s decision to take preventive measures by testing all returning travellers from the state and imposing a home quarantine on them.
“These next two to three weeks will be important in controlling the spread of Covid-19 infections as a large number of travellers from Sabah will be returning to other states after the state election.
“All returnees must ensure they fully adhere to the quarantine and SOPs or new clusters can emerge all over the country,” he said in a statement today.
Subramaniam also urged employers to ensure that their workers had a clean bill of health and were cleared of Covid-19 before asking them to return to work.
“Employees must also be upfront with their employers on their health status with proper documentation.”
