PETALING JAYA:
Three districts in Sabah and one in Selangor will be placed under conditional movement control order (CMCO), Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced today.

Sandakan, Papar and Tuaran in Sabah as well as Klang in Selangor will be under CMCO from Oct 9 onwards.

The four districts are currently classified as red zones having recorded more than 40 positive Covid-19 cases.

“This CMCO is aimed at curbing the spread of Covid-19 in these districts and to allow for targeted case detection efforts to be conducted for 14 days,” he said in a live-streamed press conference from his residence today.

No one will be allowed to enter or exit these localities during the CMCO, except for those ferrying essential products with approval from the police.

Ismail said all businesses were to be shut except for those in essential services, including factories. He added that the international trade and industry ministry would issue the full list of those included in this category.

Only two people per household will be allowed to leave the house to buy groceries, while restaurants may only cater to customers through drive-through, takeaways or deliveries.

Restaurants, grocery stores, sundry shops, petrol stations and pharmacies will only be allowed to open from 6am to 6pm, while morning markets may only operate from 6am to 2pm.

Night and farmer’s markets, houses of worship, education institutions, schools, day-care centres, kindergartens and tahfiz schools are to remain closed during the CMCO.

E-hailing vehicles and taxis are only allowed to ferry two passengers at most, while public and express bus services will be suspended.

As residents will not be allowed to leave the area, Ismail urged employers not to take any action against employees who were unable to go to work during this period.

“This is the instruction given by the government, it’s not the choice of employees themselves,” he said.

All forms of sports, recreational, social and cultural activities would be prohibited too, he added.

The police, army, civil defence force and Rela will be deployed and given the authority to monitor the situation in these areas.

Ismail also announced that the targeted enhanced MCO for the Tongkang Yard Flats along Jalan Seberang Perak in Alor Setar, Kedah, would end by midnight.

He said the locality had not reported any new Covid-19 cases for the past seven days.

“We thank the health ministry and all frontliners for the success in breaking the chain of infection in that area in the past seven days.”
