Ministers gather at Muhyiddin’s home after royal meeting

Media gather outside amid rumours, later denied, that the prime minister might resign.

KUALA LUMPUR:
Members of the Cabinet were at the home of prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin until late this evening following the decision of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to reject a government proposal to declare a state of emergency over the Covid-19 crisis.

More than 10 vehicles were seen entering Muhyiddin’s private residence in Bukit Damansara, hours after a conference at Istana Negara between the King and Malay Rulers

The vehicles were believed to be ferrying ministers and deputy ministers. The cars were seen entering his house after 9pm on Sunday and left about two hours later.

Religious affairs minister Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri waved at photographers as he was leaving. However, the occupants of other vehicles did not stop down for members of the media, who chased after them as they were leaving.

News of the meeting had sparked rumours that Muhyiddin might resign after the palace rejection of his proposal. However, a member of Muhyiddin’s PPBM party said members of the Cabinet had been with Muhyiddin to await the King’s decision.

After the decision was announced, they and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang wanted to discuss the results of the Rulers’ meeting, the party insider said.

“The slander that the PM wants to resign is the propaganda of stubborn politicians who want to take up playing politics again,” he said.

A statement by Muhyiddin tonight said the Cabinet would discuss the King’s advice made in the statement from the palace earlier.
