Muhammad Safwan Shafie pleaded guilty to the charge of attempted murder under Section 307 of the Penal Code before judge Mohammed Mokhzani Mokhtar at the Sessions Court here today.
The 27-year-old was arrested last Saturday after stabbing his 20-month-old baby at a flat in Puchong Permai. He later tested positive for methamphetamine.
According to the facts of the case, police received a call at about 4.30pm that a man had stabbed his daughter in a fit of rage. On arrival at the scene, Safwan’s mother said he had a knife and had locked himself in his house with his daughter.
After he refused to open the door, police cut through the grille and confronted Safwan, who was standing at the door with the knife.
Safwan refused to surrender and a scuffle broke out between him and eight police officers, after which they recovered the knife.
Police found his daughter lying on the kitchen floor with a deep wound in her abdomen. She was sent to the Serdang hospital.
The stabbing shocked the community as it came after a similar incident in the same area in 2018.
In that incident, a father who was high on drugs slashed his five-year-old son thrice, killing him.
