PETALING JAYA:
A PAS leader has challenged Perikatan Nasional to make changes and resolve the ongoing conflict within the government administration, as several Umno leaders call for the party to retract its support for Putrajaya.

PAS central committee member Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz said the PN government could possibly collapse if the problems remain unaddressed.

In a statement, he said it was no surprise that the PN government was facing a major conflict, adding that its “political durability” had not been tested yet.

“The rights among its founders have not yet been considered appropriately. Everyone is still claiming (their rights),” he said.

Nik Abduh’s statement came following the Umno Supreme Council’s decision last night to defer any decision on the party’s support for PPBM to its annual general assembly at the end of this month.

Three quarters of the 191 Umno divisions had called for the party to withdraw its cooperation with PPBM.

While various issues have surfaced, analysts believe that the main point of contention is the allocation of seats for the next general election, with both PPBM and Umno making demands over which constituencies they want to contest in.

However, Nik Abduh said no single party in PN should be blamed for the squabbles, and that each one should be given the space and opportunity to make their demands.

He said while it was not wrong for Umno, PAS or PPBM to stake their claims, they must be willing to negotiate.

In a statement late last night, PPBM criticised the inappropriate and continuous politicking by certain quarters in the midst of a pandemic and at a time when the nation was struck by floods.

The party was understood to be responding to Umno leaders who had called for snap polls before the end of the first quarter.
