He said DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang would not agree with him that the collapse of PH had nothing to do with his resignation from the country’s top post but added that the real reason PH fell was “because they wanted to appoint Anwar”.
“If PH had put my name forward (to the King), all that has taken place today would not have happened,” he said in his blog, Chedet.
Yesterday, Lim had slammed Mahathir, calling his decision to resign as prime minister an “egregious blunder” because he still had the majority at that time.
The DAP supremo was responding to Mahathir’s earlier remarks in which the elder statesman appeared to blame Lim for his failure to form a unity government.
In his latest blogpost titled resignation, Mahathir also commented on ex-attorney general Tommy Thomas’ book, ‘My Story – Justice in the Wilderness’.
“I don’t understand why my resignation is so hard to understand. PPBM had rejected my advice not to be impatient to leave PH,” Mahathir said, adding that his party no longer had confidence in him.
They supported the present Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, he said, and due to that he could not lead the party any longer, and resigned from the top post.
Mahathir said he fell along with PH but “Kit Siang is of the opinion that PH fell because I tendered my resignation”.
But in reality, Mahathir said, if PH had the majority, it would not have collapsed.
He said all 222 MPs gave their choice of prime minister to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong after PH collapsed in February 2020.
“PH should have suggested my name but they suggested Anwar’s because it seems there was enough support from Sabah and Sarawak,” said Mahathir.
However, Anwar only had 92 MPs supporting him while Mahathir had 62 MPs.
“If PH had nominated me, I would have had 154 MPs to be the prime minister even though PPBM had rejected me,” he added.
