Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 1,495 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 318,784.
In a statement, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 334,156.
There are 14,134 active cases, with 156 patients being treated in intensive care and 60 requiring respiratory assistance.
Meanwhile, the five deaths take the number of fatalities to 1,238.
Selangor recorded the highest number of infections with 403. This was followed by Kuala Lumpur (158), Sarawak (124), Penang (88), Johor (86), Kelantan (44), Pahang (42), Negeri Sembilan (41), Perak (39), Sabah (36), Kedah (27), Melaka (12), Labuan (eight), Putrajaya (five) and Terengganu (three).
Perlis did not record any cases today.
The new cases today involved 1,108 local infections and eight imported cases. Local cases comprised 722 Malaysians and 386 foreigners.
There were 77 cases from prisons and immigration detention centres today, involving the Jalan Harapan prison (55), Tembok Tapah (eight), Tembok Taiping (six), Jalan Awang (two), DTI Machap Umboo (two), DTI Sepang 2 (one), Telok Mas (one), Tembok Pengkalan Chepa (one) and Tembok Bukit Besi (one) clusters.
The five deaths today included four Malaysians and one foreigner, aged between 44 and 84. All but one suffered from existing medical conditions.
