PETALING JAYA:
The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, has proposed a targeted lockdown based on state or region to curb the spread of Covid-19.

He suggested that the peninsula’s southern states of Johor, Melaka and Negeri Sembilan come under complete lockdown for two weeks, followed by states in the east coast, such as Terengganu, Pahang and Kelantan.

“States that do not lock down can resume economic activities under movement control order rules in their respective areas,” he was quoted in a Facebook post by his Royal Press Office.

The post added that Sultan Ibrahim hoped his ideas would be considered by the state and federal governments.

“I am making this proposal out of concern for the plight of our country,” he said.

Sultan Ibrahim’s call comes after a virtual “assembly” among Johor MPs and assemblymen yesterday to discuss the Covid-19 situation.

Mass screenings, more vaccination centres and a two-week lockdown were among the proposals put forward by both sides of the political divide.
