Record high 11,079 Covid-19 cases, 125 deaths

There are 96,236 active cases with 972 patients being treated in intensive care and 456 requiring respiratory assistance.

PETALING JAYA:
The health ministry has reported a record high 11,079 Covid-19 cases and 125 deaths in the past 24 hours.

The previous record high of infections was 9,353 on July 10.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 5,990 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 753,328.

In a press conference, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 855,949.

There are 96,236 active cases with 972 patients being treated in intensive care and 456 requiring respiratory assistance.

Meanwhile, the 125 deaths take the number of fatalities to 6,385.

Selangor recorded the highest number of cases with 5,263.

This was followed by Kuala Lumpur (1,521), Negeri Sembilan (1,033), Kedah (497), Sarawak (472), Johor (406), Perak (329), Melaka (323), Pahang (321), Sabah (239), Penang (234), Kelantan (211), Terengganu (93), Putrajaya (77) and Labuan (60).

Perlis did not record any infections today.

There were 11,052 local infections today, comprising 9,143 Malaysians and 1,909 foreigners, as well as 27 imported cases.

The 125 fatalities comprised 108 Malaysians and 17 foreigners, aged 21 to 94. All but 19 had existing medical conditions. Sixteen were brought in dead.

Selangor also reported the highest number of deaths with 57, followed by Kuala Lumpur (20), Negeri Sembilan (13), Melaka (9), Kedah (7), Johor (7), Pahang (3), Penang (2), Perak (2), Sabah (2), Sarawak (2) and Kelantan (1).

Noor Hisham also said that as of yesterday, the country’s average Covid-19 infectivity rate, or R0 (pronounced R-nought), stood at 1.14.

Putrajaya recorded the highest R0 level with 1.32.

This was followed by Terengganu (1.25), Selangor (1.18), Kedah (1.17), Pahang (1.17), Kuala Lumpur (1.13), Melaka (1.12), Penang (1.09), Sabah (1.07), Johor (1.04) and Negeri Sembilan (1.03).
