At a press conference today, Khairy said the authorities are preparing to increase the vaccination rate in Selangor and KL following the spike in cases.
Khairy said Selangor and KL are home to at least 6.1 million people.
“As at July 15, 3.5 million people have received their first dose. Another 1.3 million will be given their first dose between now and July 25.
“The remaining 1.3 million will receive their first dose from July 26 to Aug 1.”
Khairy said adults who are not recorded as residents of Selangor and KL, such as those who do not have documents and so on, will be allowed to walk into vaccination centres (PPVs) for their jabs after Aug 1.
“After our surge capacity operations are finished, all PPVs (in Selangor and KL) will be open to walk-ins so (that) we can ‘mop up’ those who have not received their first dose.”
Separately, Khairy said the walk-in vaccinations for senior citizens in Selangor and KL above the age of 60 will begin tomorrow.
“This is for those who have not yet received an appointment … many already have an appointment.
“We do not want those with appointments to walk-in. The walk-in vaccinations are specifically for senior citizens who have yet to receive an appointment on their MySejahtera app. They can walk into any PPV in Selangor and KL.”
He also said the decision to ramp up vaccinations in the Klang Valley would not disrupt the supply for other states.
