PETALING JAYA:
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will resume its proceedings on the procurement of the Covid-19 vaccines on July 27, by recalling vaccine coordinating minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

The committee will also call the finance minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz and accountant-general Yacob Mustafa to answer queries on the vaccine procurement plan.

PAC said this is to ensure transparency in the procurement of the vaccines.

On Jan 5, Khairy and health minister Dr Adham Baba, as co-chairmen of the Covid-19 vaccine supply access guarantee special committee, had tabled the vaccine procurement plan and the implementation of the national Covid-19 immunisation programme (PICK) to the committee.

Following the proceedings, the PAC members were reported to be satisfied with the outcome of the meeting.

In a statement today, PAC chairman Wong Kah Woh said the government, however, should provide another update on the progress of the vaccine procurement.

“Taking into account the latest developments on the procurement of vaccines during the six-month emergency period, PAC is of the view that the government should provide a more detailed explanation as the situation has changed compared to last January.

“PAC is committed to completing the report and presenting it to Parliament no later than the second meeting of the fourth term of the Dewan Rakyat from October to December,” he said.

A total of 15,071,814 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been administered since PICK began. Of that number, 10,301,905 have received their first dose while 4,769,909 have completed their second dose.
